    Hi, good morning! Thank you for your question. Benzodiazepine group of medications such as Alprazolam, Clonazepam, Lorazepam or Diazepam work very quickly within few hours to bring anxiety down initially. Other medications, non-benzodiazepine groups such as Diphenhydramine or Hydroxyzine also work quicker for anxiety. FDA (Food & Drug Association) approved meds for anxiety disorders such as Fluoxetine, Paroxetine, Sertraline, citalopram or escitalopram work better for long-term effect, but it takes 3-4 few weeks to see response. Usually doctors start medications which work faster to reduce anxiety if it is very serious and making life dysfunctional and add FDA approved medications for long-term effects. Thank you. READ MORE

Dr. Oza is a board-certified psychiatrist who welcomes patients at New York City Children’s Centers in Bellerose, New York. Licensed to practice medicine in the state of New York, he holds hospital privileges at Brookdale University Hospital Medical Center, as well as Kings County Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. 

Dr. Oza attended M.P. Shah Medical College in India and received his combined Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) in 1995. After he relocated to the United States, he served a three-year residency in psychiatry at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York (2002 – 2005). Furthermore, he completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn (2005 – 2007).
